Our Vision

Our vision with The Clamshell & The Mussel is to provide a clean, safe, affordable option for those traveling to the San Juan Islands. We love traveling, and we know the struggle with “good” accommodations. The San Juan Islands are beautiful, and we want people to come and enjoy this amazing part of Washington state.

About the Spaces

We want to be as transparent as possible about Sandpiper Condominium and our units. The last thing anyone wants is an unpleasant surprise when they show up to their vacation rental. We hope that there are no unpleasant “expectations vs. reality” moments here! With that in mind, reach out with questions and check out pictures and facts online. Below is some helpful information about Sandpiper Condo and the units. Be sure to check out detailed pictures on Airbnb.

FACTS ABOUT SANDPIPER CONDOMINIUM

The Clamshell & The Mussel are 2 of 41 units at Sandpiper Condominium. Sandpiper was built in 1978, so it has a vintage look and feel about it. (The outside looks similar to a motel, but it was never a motel.) Sandpiper has vacation rentals, long-term renters, and full-time residents. Units 1-8 are also dedicated vacation rentals, so your neighbors will most likely be on vacation too!

There is an on-site property manager. The exterior of the condo is nicely maintained (including building structure, siding, paint, and landscaping); however, the pool and gym are outdated and temporarily closed. There are cameras on site to monitor the exterior of the condo. This is not a high-end luxury accommodation, so don’t expect a brand new building/ exterior; however, Sandpiper is nicely maintained and a very safe space.

The location of Sandpiper Condo is fantastic! It’s close to the ferry (about a 10 minute walk with luggage), close to downtown shops (about a 5 minute walk), and located close to the marina. (Sandpiper is up the hill from the marina, so if you’re walking, bring comfy shoes.) It is also located in a very safe, quiet neighborhood, and it is close to many things including the local playhouse, the high school, churches, police, and more.
